Exhibition in Bougival: A look at Latvia

Sunday 17 th April 2011

The European Union is a reality, multiculturalism and a common citizenship another. Starting from this point, Margot Berg made a documentary about mobility of young people in Latvia.

The starting point: a year as a volunteer in an NGO where meetings with young people from all across Europe is a daily challenge.

Summer 2010: my project about youth mobility in Europe became reality in Latvia. For a month, I travelled in all the country to meet French, Austrians, Latvians, Russians youth to realize a portrait of a Youth in Action fond of travel, discoveries and sharing experiences.

A travel blog tells about her daily journey through the streets of the capital Riga, on the shores of the Baltic Sea or in the land of Blue Lakes.

The project is also composed of a 12 minute - video documentary. After nine interviews with young people with diverse backgrounds, its purpose is to show Latvia through the eyes of its inhabitants. They just talked to the camera and offer a particular glimpse on their lives, revealing their doubts, fears, but also opportunities, dreams to offer a rich melting pot of interculturality.

Coming back home, I asked my city hall to organize a exhibition at the local library to promote the project but also to give a chance to people to discover Latvia.

Thus, a photo exhibition took place at the Library Emile Richebourg (Bougival) from April 30 to May 31 with the key, to discover a little known country and encourage young people to travel and open themselves to other cultures through the European program Youth in Action.
